About Us

About Kappa Delta

In 1897, four young women at State Female Normal School of Virginia (now Longwood University) joined together with a common vision — to create something “higher and nobler,” an organization that would empower women through friendship and high ideals. Over 125 years later, the sorority continues to live the dream of its founders by providing a lifelong experience for our members through support and sisterhood.

The Kappa Delta experience offers members the chance to leave their mark on the future and impact the lives of members and those in need around the world. Contributions to the Kappa Delta Foundation from alumnae, collegians and friends enable the sorority to further its philanthropic efforts, local community outreach programs, as well as scholarships and educational opportunities for members.

We have chosen to become Kappa Deltas because we believe that, in some way, all of us can be better together than each of us can be alone. That is the strength of Kappa Delta. Learn more about Kappa Delta Sorority and the Kappa Delta Foundation by visiting our national organization’s website.

About Alpha Mu

Kappa Delta Sorority, founded in 1897, promotes service to others, academic excellence, leadership, and sisterhood. The Alpha Mu Chapter of Kappa Delta was founded at The University of Mississippi in 1927. Our chapter is dedicated to our two national philanthropies, Prevent Child Abuse America and Girl Scouts of the USA. Last year alone, our chapter raised over $100,000 for Prevent Child Abuse America and the North Mississippi Family Exchange Club through our “Shamrock” philanthropy events: KD Quesadillas and Kaddyshack Golf Tournament. Kappa Delta has been a proud partner of the Girl Scouts of the USA since 1998, and every year we hold several events for our local Girl Scout troops, such as Confident Cookie Selling, where we take the Girl Scouts around to sorority and fraternity houses on campus to sell their cookies. Kappa Delta is also committed to building confidence and inspiring action in all women through our international movement, the Confidence Coalition, which encourages all women and girls to embrace their uniqueness, live courageously, and build confidence in one another. Academics are a strong focus for our chapter. Kappa Delta has been ranked #1 academically for all Greek organizations for the last three semesters, and we are consistently ranked in the top three. The Alpha Mu chapter has been nationally recognized by the Recruitment Excellence Award and the Merit Award. Our sisters love to volunteer with our philanthropies, get involved on campus, and strive for our academic goals, but at the heart of it all is our love for each other.
